In recent years Baj has had a penchant for painting nocturnal scenes – aquatic landscapes at the juncture of day and night. This collection of works is entitled “Black River”. The pervasive darkness makes even the riverbank cease to be something obvious. The light is the only thing to attract our sight and assumes the role of being the main protagonist for our assumptions just as the screen in the darkness of the cinema draws attention to itself. — Jagoda Barczyńska

Had I not seen Baj’s paintings before, I would not have been able to see the light on the water when I stood with my back leaning against my car and my feet planted in the sand, accompanied by the scent of moisture in my noise and the motion of water in the riverbed winding among the trees. — Rafał Wojasiński

The river. It is something akin to an affliction. The river itself has consumed me. — Stanisław Baj
